What is your ideal home?

When was the last time you saw any of your friends and family, away from your drinking/gossip buddies and coworkers?

I went visiting with a relative of mine the other day. They lived in a posh and spacious bungalow, with the grounds covered by cute trees and shrubs. A swimming pool would have made their home picturesque.

In the dynamic and fast world, we live in, getting an ideal home is almost impossible for the majority of the population. The family earnings, costs, convenience, and family demands all put a toll on seeking an ideal home.

A home is a place we go to after a long day of work, study, or leisure. It is the abode we escape, albeit momentarily the craziness of life. Sadly for some, the home is the source of anxieties, abuse, toxicity and endless drama. Fortunately, for a majority, the home is the place of refuge.

I grew up in the countryside, our home nestled between two hills, thus the duration of sunlight was slightly limited. However, the forest cover then was enviable, and the nearest tree line was a welcome sight every morning I woke up.

Being in the city now, amidst the concrete jungle, I wistfully crave the freshening aura of the countryside. My juvenile fantasies included a home, by the beach with a background of forest cover. I would take that without skipping a beat if I ever get there.

The rate of deforestation in most civilizations is worrying. Tree cover and forests might become like the fabled dinosaurs in a few years! What informs your choice of a home for you? Is it the surrounding environment, the cost, convenience, or just home?

I am considering moving back to shags (countryside), set up a sizable farm, hopefully with a horse or two for good measure. This will provide a welcome getaway when the buzz and noise in the city become too much.

I understand most people do not have a home in the countryside to run back to. What with, meager earnings, shrinking economies, families, kids, and stressful work schedules.

Hopefully, you get your ideal home or at the very least you will treat yourself to some nice weekend getaway. It doesn’t have to be extravagant or detailed.

A random drive out of town, away from the mundane routine of life should be rejuvenating. Next time we can think of possible getaway ideas.

To better living!

Lost In the Sea of Life

Life can really screw you. Or it might turn out like a Disney story.  I met Kev along the streets of Nairobi a few weeks back. He still had his wide grin and bubbly personality that could keep a whole village warm during a winter night. Kev is a kind-hearted human being, generous and an agreeable fellow to a fault. He also had such great footballing skills, I always envisaged him playing for the great Manchester United. He actually had a stint playing for a local Premier league, albeit on a trial basis. As he had no money to bribe some connected individuals, his spot was taken by a lesser talent who sadly had more well-oiled hands than him. So up in flames, went his footballing dream. While he still looked for his 40 years, his eyes looked hollow and haunted. He had the look of a war veteran, like a person who had seen too much suffering, death and had had his soul wrung dry. I was excited to reconnect with by childhood friend and I had some time to idle away, I suggested we find a nic

How Processing Your Traumas Can Help Improve Your Life

We have lots of marriage counselors and relationship gurus, yet we seem to be having more screwed-up relationships than ever. Why is that? Of course, the digital age hasn't made things any better. Technology has allowed sharing shitty tales of how men or women are bad. Sadly, most of us are driven by our fears, thus pushing people away or disqualifying ourselves from great opportunities. Understanding and processing your traumas can help you navigate life better, have more meaningful relationships, and realize your true potential. What are Unresolved Traumas? All of us have traumas in our life. It's part of being human. You could be traumatized by an accident, a natural disaster, or anything really bad that happened to you. Traumas are deeply disturbing experiences that we cannot process when they happen. Unresolved traumas are past experiences that were so painful that we suppressed their memory. We do this for self-protection because the pain was too much to bear at the time
